Making Senor Frog
Materials: Green,Yellow and Pink Floam
Aluminum foil
2 plastic google eyes (optional)
1) Make a Foil Skeleton:
Frog’s skeleton is made up of two main parts: his round body and his long legs. Body:
Take a 12 by 12-inch piece of foil and mash it loosely into an egg shape, not too tight, about the size of an egg
too.
Legs:
Loosely roll a 12 inch by 6 inch piece of aluminum foil into a long tube, then squeeze the middle of the roll to make
a thin long stick with your hands, (not too tightly). Flatten just the ends of the stick to make his feet
2) Connect the pieces: Fold the long stick in half. Place the egg-shape of foil at the middle of the stick, with the bigger side of the
egg touching the folded part. Take a 3 inch by 12 inch strip of foil and wrap it around both pieces to connect them
you can also use a rubber band Smooth the strip around the body shape, use another piece to make it stronger if you
like.
3) Shape the skeleton:
Holding the body section carefully in place, bend both legs up at an angle. It may look more like a bunny skeleton at
the moment. Don’t worry.
Bend the legs halfway between where they meet his body and where his feet begin. Do this to both legs. Now bend his
feet out so you can flatten them against the table.
Squeeze the Frog’s body a little flatter, push his bottom flat against the table top and point his head up.
Now make adjustments to your Frog based on what you see in front of you. Is one leg sticking out farther than the
other? Does his body need to be pushed back into the legs a little bit? Should his knees squeeze closer to his body?
Take a minute to look at your construction and fix it how you like. And now… 4) Floam It!! Roll out some green Floam to about the thickness of a mousepad. Tear off small pieces and gently cover your foil
skeleton. If the legs move while you’re Floaming, that’s okay, just move them back into position. Floam stays
flexible while you’re working. Turn your frog upside down and all around to make sure he’s completely covered. Set
him on the counter and mash his feet flat. Next, take two small pieces of green Floam, each about the size of a dime. Roll them into tiny balls of Floam.
These are his eye-bulges. Set them on top of his head where you think his eyes should be and gently press them into
place.
Take two goggle eyes and push one into the front of each bulge. Take two more small pieces and form them into small triangles for his front webfeet. Push these into the front of
his belly where it meets the tabletop. Make sure they are sticking into his Floamed belly so they will stay put. Now flatten a piece of yellow Floam to around the size and flatness of a quarter, This is his yellow chest. Press
it against his front between his flippers. Smooth it into place. The last part is his smile. Take a small piece of pink and make a long skinny string of Floam. Press it gently
into place. He’s done! Just set him somewhere airy until he’s dry. |
